Objective
Knowledge: Describing Tourist attractions - recall key features from recount diary completed during the trip
Skill: Digital or manual map creation-showing the location of major tourist attractions, /annotation/photo manipulation.
Literacy: Recount writing- notes from the field trip and and transforming into persuasive description of tourist  attractions. 
Activities
  • Read through the common assessment task sheet and identify the key areas
  • What are the key features of this example travel guide?
  • Use this planning template for all your planning and rough work for this assessment.
  • Select the photographs you think best show the attractions of your destination-which are your top 10. (paste into your planning template)
  • Annotate your photos to highlight some of the key features of your top 10 attractions

Session 2

Title: Describing Places
Objective
Knowledge: factual knowledge about the visited island-recall knowledge from notes
Skill: descriptive  and persuasive writing
Literacy - use of descriptive word/phrases add to word walls to generate ideas for expression

Activities

Your travel guide aimed at young families should include a written summary of the top 10 attractions on your island  (approx 100 words for each)
You could present your travel guide as a poster or a brochure.
SMORE could be used to produce a brochure.

Title: Describing Change
Objective
Knowledge: What did students learn from the research interview or secondary data about how the island has changed.
Skill Driven- research threads- getting students to refine research threads for secondary data
​
Literacy Driven: students follow guiding questions to formulate the structure of their written responses.
Activities
  • What did you learn from your interview of local residents?
  • How has the island changed?-write a paragraph that describes and explains a change in your islands in living memory base this on your interview and secondary sources.
  1. What is the change that has occurred? is it an environmental, social, economic change?
  2. How do you know that the change has taken place? 'According to...?
  3. What is the evidence for this change? Primary/secondary information- could old photographs be used to highlight the differences between 
  4. What has caused the change to take place?
  5. What are the effects of the changes? 
  6. Is it a positive or negative change in your opinion for the island?
